final repairs and restoration
september 2008

Even after all of the work done by the USS Sterett sailors and other volunteers in August, the water problem still required a resolution.  Parks & People Foundation persevered and, together with AmeriCorps NCCC volunteers, successfully finished the restoration of the Indiana Street Playground on September 10, 2008. They installed a new drainage system and all of the standing water drained out using 100 feet of drainage tile and 32 feet of PCB pipe. They then placed 3 yards of new gravel in the playground pit and 75 yards of playground wood chips over the filter cloth, adding new cloth where necessary.

As a final touch, a new tree and flowering shrubs are being planted along the street side of the playground this Fall.
