Mission Statement

To bring community members together to work as one, rebuilding, communicating and maintaining strong, positive relationships with Westport Academy, new and current organizations coming to Westport with additional development, local businesses and Westport residents, focusing primarily on our youth and seniors, to ensure that services are provided to help promote a safer, cleaner, and brighter future for everyone in our community.

Join the WNA!
Come to the meetings on the 1st Thursday of each month.  Meet and mingle with neighbors and enjoy refreshments starting at 6:00pm; meeting begins at 6:30.  Everyone is welcome!
(Westport Academy, 2401 Nevada Street.)
Take part in the revitalization of the neighborhood.  The WNA officers and directors are your neighbors.  They want to hear your ideas for improving Westport.
Some of the programs and projects they have worked on so far, include the following...

Baltimore Neighborhood Energy Challenge (BNEC)
The WNA submitted a successful application on behalf of Westport to join the Baltimore Neighborhood Energy Challenge (BNEC), a program designed to motivate households to reduce their energy usage.  With help from a free AmeriCorps assistant, they have recruited about 20 volunteer Neighborhood Energy Captains from the neighborhood, who have been trained by BNEC to educate the rest of the neighbors about energy saving measures and help them access information and resources, including grant and assistance programs, market-rate energy services and more.

Neighborhood Design Center Award (NDC)
The WNA submitted a successful application to the Neighborhood Design Center (NDC), a nonprofit  organization that provides pro bono design and planning services in support of community projects.  Volunteer architects, planners, landscape architects, engineers, and other design professionals donate their professional services to help groups in the initial stages of neighborhood revitalization efforts.  The NDC helped the neighbors of Westport create a "Main Street" & Gateway Design Plan for Annapolis Road.  Presented to city agencies by the NDC and the WNA in June 2010, the final plan took a year to develop.  It is the product of the neighbors' ideas and visions captured with outstanding creativity and professionalism by the NDC design team.

Pedestrian Bridge Design
Thanks to the outstanding "Main Street" & Gateway Design Plan, as well as the growing experience and involvement of the WNA, planners in the city’s Dept. of Transportation were convinced to improve upon their initial design for replacing the pedestrian bridge over Rte. 295 in Westport to make it more aesthetically attractive in a style similar to that suggested in the neighborhood’s design plan.

Westport Spring Fair
For two years running, the WNA has organized a fun and successful Spring Fair in celebration of Westport.  Each year we try to make it bigger and better.  We are already working on this year’s event.  Volunteering is even more fun than attending, so don’t hesitate to get involved.

Working with Westport Community Partnerships
The WNA successfully partners with Westport Community Partnerships.  In addition to organizational, financial and grant-writing support, we have worked together to help bring heat to 20 Westport families who desperately needed it, deliver 650 yellow recycle bins full of goodies door to door throughout the neighborhood, support the proposed rezoning of Annapolis Road to help bring back Westport’s "Main Street," and more.
