The neighborhood of Westport is tucked away in its own little corner of South Baltimore on the western shore of the Middle Branch Harbor where the Gwynns Falls meets the Patapsco River.  For many years, Westport was a thriving blue-collar community.  Industry on the waterfront employed the majority of residents.  And while it was never a high income neighborhood, everyone got by.  But with the rennaisance of Baltimore's Inner Harbor, and the move away from heavy indsutry, the factories began to shut down. By the time the Carr Lowrey Glass Company, the last operating factory and largest employer in Westport, closed its doors in 2003, neighbors had lost their jobs, homes had been abandoned. The neighborhood quickly fell into poverty and disrepair.

Now, Westport is changing yet again.  The Westport Waterfront Development project will reshape 50 acres of waterfront property where the old factories used to stand.  And Westport Community Partnerships is commited to helping the existing neighborhood benefit from this exciting development.
